Gems are found throughout Dereth as loot from monsters and chests. Their primary purpose is to transmute for extra gold, but some of them are used in certain quests. Each gem can be found at several quality levels and increasing value, from small to huge. Better quality gems (large, huge) are found only on higher level monsters, but high rarity gems (pyreum, starstone) can be found on monsters of any level.

Gems can also be cut to double their value. A cut gem will show a "Gemcutter" buff, and cutting a gem stack will double the value of all the gems in that stack. Cutting gems also increases their value for the Gem Quest.
